Mahindra to launch new Scorpio

mahindra which tops the headlines with the launch of Xylo is heading another big launch. When a reporter quipped Mr.Pawan Goenka, President Automotive Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra, Will Mahindra phase out scorpio as the machine flying around for almost 7 years, He replied why should we? when scorpio sales are still going strong.

Mahindra which launched the scorpio in 2002 has constantly upgraded the product to make it contemporary. In 2006, Mahindra added plush seats and rear centre arm rest and dual tone exterior colour. In 2007, Mahindra fitted advanced m_Hawk engine under the hood of scorpio. In 2008, Scorpio got automatic transmission. Mahindra also launched cheaper M2DI variant of scorpio to cater to the needs of rural customer and expand the product’s reach. We are happy to inform you, Scorpio is due for a facelift again in 2009. The all new scorpio will get styling changes both inside and outside the car. Oval shapes will be replace by razor sharp edges. The new scorpio will have a completely different front profile. A new bumper and a headlamp will give a refreshed appeal to the car. New stickers on the body panels will tell you this is a new scorpio. Mahindra is also said to be further fine tuned the suspension of scorpio for better handling chracteristics. Regarding the powertrain, the 2.6L CRDe will be phased out and the superior m_Hawk engine will replace it. Currently the m_hawk contributes for 40% sales of scorpio. The new facelifted scorpio will replace all the existing variants of scorpio - from M2DI to top end m_hawk Automatic variant. Though we expect a marginal increase in prices for the new scorpio, reliable sources tells us there will not be any price change. Also, we learnt that the new scorpio is ready to hit the market as early as March 2009 but we have to wait when Mahindra takes a call.

2011 Volkswagen Golf

2011 Volkswagen Golf

2011 Volkswagen Golf

volkswagen is working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Golf/Rabbit, named Twin Drive, for introduction in 2011. A basic proof-of-concept version using a diesel engine is currently testing, in a 20-car fleet, in Berlin. But at the Golf 6 launch, VW engineers said the production version will be gasoline-powered because emission controls will soon get too expensive for a hybrid. The Golf Twin Drive’s electric-only range is targeted at 30 miles.

Although VW engineers talk of the Twin Drive’s gas engine as a range extender, the gasoline motor is clutched to the wheels. That’s quite unlike GM’s Volt, where the combustion engine never drives the wheels mechanically.

There is no conventional transmission in the Twin Drive, however, its absence helping to offset the weight of the electric motor. The single-gear ratio is equivalent to the top gear in a normal car. So the electric motor is needed to supply the low-end torque to get the car rolling to about 30 mph, when the combustion engine is clutched in and starts. The electric assist then rapidly fades, but is re-energized for acceleration boost.

2011 Volkswagen Golf

There’s 40 hp of regeneration braking. Reversing is electric-only. An “e-mode” button can be pressed in ZEV-only areas, which inhibits the gas engine completely.

The 350-lb battery pack is by Sanyo, with lithium-ion cells. Capacity is 12 KWh, though it is normally depleted only by 8 KWh. It is located in the trunk floor, so apart from an absence of spare tire this Rabbit has the same packaging as the base car.

The gas engine is a 1.4L turbo direct-injection four on experimental cars, but a production version would likely take a cylinder off that, producing a 1.05L triple of 100 hp, plus the electric boost when needed. This downsized-with-turbo concept gives high fuel efficiency and added flexibility to cope with the absence of intermediate gears.

The system controller is linked to the vehicle’s navigation system, so it calculates when best to use up the available battery charge — if the system knows an urban area is ahead, it will run longer on the gasoline engine. It will also ensure the car arrives at its destination with batteries depleted, ready to take on cheap electricity rather than expensive gasoline.

VW is setting up a partnership with German electric utility E.ON, which, according to the VW engineers, has spare night-power capacity to charge 10 million electric vehicles.

Xroadies: Preview: New 2009 BMW 7-Series (F01) Photos Leaked

Xroadies: Preview: New 2009 BMW 7-Series Photos Leaked

new 2009 bmw 7 series

Today our day started on a exciting note as we got our first look at the production model pictures of yet to debut new 2009 BMW 7-Series that hit the web via Flickr. How these seemingly official press photos of upcoming 7-series got leaked is not known but we take it as pre-release publicity act by BMW. Anyhow, it looks a lot like the outgoing model but a bit more edgier and tauter. The new 7-Series take many design cues from the CS Concept, like the angel-eye shape of the front headlamps and an oversized grille. You can see the comparison photo here

new 2009 bmw 7 series

The rear end has been blessed with a more balanced and intergrated look than before. It gets a pair of uniquely restyled but odd looking tail-lamps. Not sure how many of you would like them but atleast give the Bavarian automaker some credit for its effort.

Expect for fixing certain styling ills of the previous generation model, there doesn’t seem anything revolutionary about the exteriors of the new BMW flagship. But don’t get too upset as a lot of significant changes are expected under the sheet-metal including a longer wheelbase and higher spec powertrain options plus a hybrid version at a later stage.

Moving inside, the car comes with a markedly cleaner and more refined interior look which is quite different from what we saw earlier in the spy shot. It gets some neat restyling and new cool looking gadgets but if you thought you could just wish away the iDrive, better luck next time. BMW is confident that its second generation iDrive controller won’t irritate its users and comes with the new iDrive onscreen interface thats believed to be easier on eyes.

It seems that the 7-Series would also get BMW’s in-car Internet system since a Google search page is shown in one of the pictures below. For the guys at the back there are individual rear-seat monitors which look more useful and classy than the regular center single screen used in the outgoing model. Even the gear-shifter looks new and is no longer mounted on the steering column.

BMW is expected to release the high-res official photos and more details about its new 7-Series on July 7th. Is it a coincidence that the new 7 comes on the 7th day of the 7th month? .

1964-1968 Ferrari 275GTB, GTB/4

Ferrari 275GTB

Ferrari 275GTB

Ferrari 275GTB

Designed by Francesco Salamone
In 1922, Battista “Pinin” Farina beat Enzo Ferrari in a hill-climb. Decades later, the old rivals began one of the auto industry’s most fruitful collaborations. Pininfarina–after 1961 the legal name of both the man and his carrozzeria–ended up contributing striking coachwork to many of Ferrari’s road cars. The Ferrari 275GTB, designed by Pininfarina’s Francesco Salamone, was panned by critics as dull and dreary when it debuted at the 1964 Paris show, but time has proven them wrong. The last Ferrari grand tourer to be blessed by Pinin’s touch is now revered as one of the sexiest car sculptures ever created.

2009 Cadillac Converj Concept

2009 Cadillac Converj Concept

2009 Cadillac Converj Concept

The rumored Cadillac E-Flex concept was confirmed this morning at General Motor’s 2009 Detroit Auto Show press conference. The concept’s official name will be the Cadillac Converj and, as anticipated, it is based on the Chevy Volt platform.

The Converj concept is the latest rolling showcase for GM’s extended-range electric propulsion system, which the company is now calling Voltec. The Converj features the same 16-kWh, T-shaped battery, electric drive unit, and four-cylinder engine-generator as the Volt. Thus, like the volt, the Converj will go 40 miles on emissions-free electric power. It then switches to the four cylinder engine to provide power to the motor and charge the lithium-ion battery.

Although the Converj is based on the Volt, the design, from GM’s U.K. advanced design studio under the direction of Simon Cox, is pure Cadillac. Unlike the Volt sedan, it sports a coupe body style with seats for four passengers in a 2+2 layout. A small trunk is accessed through an even smaller opening. The overall shape resembles the CTS coupe concept that debuted at last year’s show with a bit of the Cien show car mixed in. The design emphasizes aerodynamics, with minimal grille openings, a fully covered underbody, and slim cameras in place of rearview mirrors. The smallest Cadillac ever made, the Converj is some 10 inches shorter than the CTS coupe. The Converj is about the same length as the Volt but it’s wider, due to the Cadillac’s larger wheels and tires (21-inches up front and 22 inches at the rear).

Inside, the Converj is trimmed with white suede and black leather and there is a blue ambient glow throughout the cabin. The instrument cluster is illuminated with LEDs and touch-screens are used for navigation, climate, center-stack controls and audio systems. A screen placed high on the instrument panel displays surrounding images provided by cameras.

Although no production plans have been announced at this time, the Converj is intended to show the flexibility of the Voltec propulsion technology. It’s also a window into GM’s thinking as to where to take the Cadillac brand.

Mitsubishi At the 2008 New York International Auto Show

At the 2008 New York International Auto Show, Mitsubishi revealed it is looking to the U.S. market as a possible fit for the company’s tiny 4-passenger car, the i. And if there’s a place for the diminutive car on U.S. roads, then perhaps there might also be a market for an electric version.

Mitsubishi i-MIEV Sport Concept Photo: Sean Frego

Mitsubishi also featured this sporty version of the electric i-MIEV on their display in New York. Photo: Sean Frego

Already sold in Japan where it has gained considerable popularity, the i-car is about 10 inches shorter than a MINI Cooper but makes excellent use of available space. Four adult passengers fit easily in the i-car, while still allowing for a bit of cargo — although only a grocery bag or two. Headroom is quite plentiful due to the i-car’s shape.
The shape is even possible in this small of a package because the engine sits below the floor and just forward of the rear axle. This allowed designers to give the rear-wheel-drive i-car a larger passenger compartment while putting the wheels at the corners.
The other advantage to this rear-mid engine layout: converting to an electric version of the i-car does not require any major structural changes. So Mitsubishi replaced the gasoline-powered engine with an electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries stored under the floor. This new version of the i-car is called the i-MIEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle).
An even more interesting advantage when converting the i-car into the i-MIEV: With the batteries in the floor, the center of gravity is lowered so much the electric version actually handles better than its gas-powered sibling.
Mitsubishi plans to put the i-MIEV on sale in Japan late next year, but to get an early indication of the viability of this car in America, the company brought a few cars to the New York show. MSN Autos’ editors got the chance to take this little car for a spin around Manhattan and found the car would probably feel right at home zipping and lunging between the taxicabs of the Big Apple.

Jaguar XF 2009 Model Details and Photos

Jaguar XF 2009

Jaguar XF 2009

Jaguar XF 2009 Model full details and photos revealed last year. One of the first car that will carry Jaguar’s new design. The Jaguar XF is a 4-door sedan with a sexy roofline (drag coefficient is 0.29cD), and I think it proves Jaguar still has it - the ability to create beautiful and fast cars that has been part of the Jaguar philosophy. This model however facing some few problems whenever it is released.A faulty belt to be precise, you can read it on my previous post at Jaguar XF 2009 model faulty seat belts.

Jaguar XF 2009

Interior, the Jaguar XF features the new JaguarDrive Selector, the first rotary dial-based shift-by-wire shifter which Jaguar thinks is more precise and intuitive while saving space at the same time, allowing better utilization of interior space.
Jaguar XF 2009
Seems Jaguar put up some geekery on the interior for those who are into that kind of stuff. The XF’s air-conditioning vents present a flush dashboard surface until the ignition is switched on, at which point they elegantly rotate to the open position. JaguarSense uses touch and proximity control to manage the overhead console lights and glovebox release. The parking brake uses Jaguar’s Electric Paring Brake which you can operate from a small chromed release in the center console. This parking brake automatically disengages when the shifter is put into Drive.

There are 4 engines aJaguar XF 2009vailable, all mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifting. The base petrol unit is an all-aluminium 3.0 liter DOHC V6 engine with Continuously Variable Cam Phasing and variable geometry air intakes. It makes 240 horsepower and 293Nm of torque with 80% of that available below 1,500rpm and up to a maximum speed of 6,800rpm.

There is also a larger normally aspirated 4.2 liter V8 that makes 300 horsepower and 411Nm of torque. A supercharged version of this engine in the SV8 model uses a rotor-type supercharger making 420 horsepower and 560Nm of torque.
Jaguar XF 2009
Of course, there is also an oil-burning Jaguar XF powered by a 2.7 liter V6 turbodiesel with twin variable geometry turbochargers making 207 PS and 435Nm of torque. Jaguar says this is the lightest diesel engine of it’s type and size, thanks to it’s Compacted Graphite Iron cylinder block and aluminium cylinder heads.

To bring the car to a stop, all XF models use large 326mmx20mm vented front discs and 326mmx20mm rear discs, except for the SV8 Supercharged model which uses larger 355mmx32mm vented front discs.

Jaguar has taken much effort to ensure NVH levels in this car is excellent. At 50km/h, interior noise level is only 65.6dB.
