New Honda City - First Impression

Thanks to you and city buyers, India has become one of the largest market for city. Within fortnight of City international debut in Thailand, Honda has brought the new city (third generation) to India. This entry level C-segment car is slowly becoming global and Honda plans to introduce this new city in european market too. The front end of the new city looks bold with a protruding three deck grille. Complementing the grille are the sharply styled headlamps and the muscular front bumper. The side blinkers are nicely placed near the headlamp cluster to give an integrated look. The sharp cuts and creases on the bonnet give it both a sporty and solid theme. The new city rides on 15-inch wheels but the narrow tyres does not blend with the overall appearance. Come to the rear, you would mistake the cars as BMW 3-series. It seem that Munich maker is not able to find enough lawyers. Anyway, the boot spoiler and stylish tail lamp cluster gives the new city upmarket look. Absence of any stronger shoulder line makes the new city to look shorter than actually it is Overall styling is more Asian than Japanese or European.

New Honda City

Honda knows that the competitor for the new city is not just SX4 but also soon to be launched Fiat linea and Toyota Yaris. Under the hood of the new city is the new 1.5L i-VTEC engine churning out 118PS of peak power at 6600rpm making it most powerful in its class. Honda claims that the new engine would deliver class leading performance without any sacrifice in mileage.

New Honda City

The underpinning of the new city are independent Mcpherson strut at the front and Non Independent torison beam at the rear. All the wheels gets disc brakes and the kerb weight of new city is 1085kg. Boot space stood at voluminous 506 litres even greater than the higher segment corolla altis. The new electric power steering is expected to alleviate the dullness of hydraulic steering of the previous gen city. The new city borrows interior styling cues from bigger sibling civic. The three spoke steering wheel now features audio controls and automatic variant feature paddle shift behind it. An advanced Audio system (but no CD player the choice is yours) which has iPod compatibility, MP3 usability, USB memory and also cell phone compatibility.

New Honda City

Interestingly Honda has packed the new city with a host of safety features - ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with Brake Assist (BA), Dual SRS airbags, pre-tensioner seat belts and G-CON (G-Force Control Technology) body with a crush-proof survival zone.

New Honda City

The new city comes in three variants and comes in the price band of Rs 7.7 lakh and Rs 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Seems like Honda has a winner in its hands but you have to wait till November first week to drive this beauty.

Pictorial Preview on new Honda city

Unlike anywhere in the world, Honda is enjoying a special love among Indian customers. Indians ignores the Toyota, Ford’s and even the Maruti’s to buy a car from Honda. The astounding success of city,civic,CR-V and accord is the witness of this love. City which has almost come to an end of its product lifecycle is still sticking to No.1 spot piping the masculine SX4 and frugal logan. But as typical for any successful team, Honda engineers are under pressure to beat their previous performance. The task before them is to create a sedan that should outperform the experience of the current city. Difficult isn’t it?

1) New Honda 2008 / 2009 city: What makes their job more tough is they have to play within the limitations. Unlike the civic, city is not a global car it is confined to asian market.Hence the investment cannot be huge, similar to previous generation city the new city shares the platform with the Honda’s super hatch Jazz. But credible effort is made to hide the hatch root of the new 2008 city.

new Honda city

2) New Honda 2008 / 2009 city: The funky look of the Jazz is gone, the headlamps are neat with integrated indicators. Two large crease on the bonnet and 3D dimensional grille gives the new 2008 city a distinct look. A more muscular front bumper makes the 2008 city to resemble the ‘cab forward’ style of other Honda products.Unlike the current city which looks awkward when viewed from rear, this new city looks nice. The sedan has an upswept shoulder line to complement the muscular front and flows into the angular tail lamp cluster. The curved surfaces all over its length conveys that the car will have better aerodynamic co-efficient and hence the mileage.

new Honda city

3) New Honda 2008 / 2009 city: When we think about the mileage, we remember Honda’s promise of fitting superior i-VTEC in all its upcoming models. i-VTEC is the Honda’s trademarked acronym for Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control. In the new unit the valves are opened wide and for a longer period for more power. Be ready to scream this engine till 6500rpm and challenge the SX4. Honda will carry forward the five speed gearbox and a auto box from the Jazz.

4) New Honda 2008 / 2009 city: Thanks to Honda for sourcing the steering wheel from Civic for the new city 2008, the interior looks sporty. The chrome ringed dials, height adjustable seats and paddle shifts is sure to raise heart beat. However the two tone interiors as shown in the photo is again a letdown from Honda. The chrome strips at the centre console fails to bring the upmarket look which the segment buyer would look for.

new Honda city

5) New Honda 2008 / 2009 city: Similar to the current city, the new city 2008 might come in three variants. The top end version of the new city 2008 would feature front and rear fog lamps, mirror mounted indicators,60:40 foldable seats, integrated CD player, chrome door handles, 15 inch alloy wheels and chrome cutter for exchaust. For the safety of the occupants the new city 2008 will come with G-CON body construction,ABS with EBD and Brake Assist and Airbags for driver and front passenger. The disc brake on all wheels.

6) New Honda 2008 / 2009 city: Are you owner of current generation city and worried about its resale value after the launch of new 2008 city? the following words might excite you. Contrarty to its tradition of replacing the older one when the new generartion cars are introduced, there are rumours that Honda might keep selling the current city along with the new city at a lower price.

The new city 2008 will make its international debut on 09th Septemeber in Thailand. Honda Thailand has already started running a teaser campaign for the new city. http://www.honda.co.th/city/teaser/main.php

Honda’s new city would hit the Indian market before the end of this month. The philipines, Singapore and Malayasia will get the new city by 2009. This new city will be hit the Pakistan and China soon.

Toyota Prius i-Tech vs Honda Civic Hybrid

The futuristic design in the Civic Hybrid was pretty impressive to me. The Civic Hybrid's interior features beige treatment that certainly adds a nice touch to the overall appearance.

If you compare the two vehicles on features alone, then the Toyota Prius i-Tech would totally dominate the competition. The official capacity of the Toyota Pirus i-Tech is 456 liters, and the capacity of the Honda Civic Hybrid is set at 376 liters. Both cars have your basic alloy wheels. The Honda Civic Hybrid is the cheapest way to become eco-friendly with a starting price set at $31,990, which oddly enough is the same price as the Honda Civic Sport.

When you compare the two by features, the Honda Civic Hybrid undoubtedly takes second place to the Toyota Prius i-Tech. However as a hidden incentive for the eco-lovers Honda has pledged to plant 18 trees for every Civic Hybrid sold.

Details

Many are skeptical about the technology involved with Hybrids and because it isn't common yet, many just brush it off as small trend. Although they aren't often seen cruising around town, I believe this type of car is here to stay and will only be improved over time. As years pass you will be sure to see more and more of them, and eventually they may even become the norm since pollution problems are escalating at an alarming rate.

Honda Civic Hybrid

In Australia there is an extremely small market for eco-friendly cars unfortunately. In fact, there are only two well known cars that are having success in this market. They are the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid. They both certainly have their upsides and downfalls and when it comes down to economic fuel efficiency there is a clear cut winner. In this article, I will compare the Toyota Prius i-Tech against the Honda Civic Hybrid to see which one of these cars will come out victorious.

First off, we will discuss the interior of the vehicles. The futuristic design in the Civic Hybrid was pretty impressive to me. I like the fact that Honda wanted to take a chance and not follow the norm. One thing that Honda did maintain during design is the shape. It is the same shape as all the other Civic models, but I don't see this as a bad thing. The Civic Hybrid's interior features beige treatment that certainly adds a nice touch to the overall appearance.

Comparing the amount of space in the vehicles comes out about even in my opinion. Neither of the two are short on space and can both fit four adults in the car with ease, with no problems. The trunks are a tad short on room but this is only because that is where they both store the battery packs for the vehicles. The Toyota Prius can thank the flat battery pack that lies beneath the floor of the trunk for giving it 80 more liters of space than the Civic hybrid. The official capacity of the Toyota Pirus i-Tech is 456 liters, and the capacity of the Honda Civic Hybrid is set at 376 liters.

Toyota Prius I-Tech

Now we can take a look at the Toyota Prius' interior. After seeing how impressive the Civic's interior was I was hoping to see a decent competition take off. Unfortunately, this was not the case. In comparison the Toyota Prius just couldn't compete due to its very simplistic design. The gauges and controls are either restricted to the steering wheel or confined to the touch screen LCD monitor. One thing I found rather interesting though, is that they didn't limit the steering wheel controls to audio, cruise control, and the telephone. In the Toyota Prius you are able to adjust the climate and demister controls as well, which I found to be rather remarkable. Before stepping foot in the Prius i-Tech I had never driven a vehicle that gave you the control over these features via the steering wheel. These extra features don't complicate the controls either. They are actually very easy to use and quite helpful when you are in busy traffic.

Another great feature of the Prius i-Tech is the keyless entry and keyless start system. All the driver has to do is walk up to the vehicle with the key fob in their hand or pocket, and grab the door handle. After doing this, the car simply unlocks it. Once you are inside the car all you have to do now is press the starter button from any location within the vehicle, and it starts right up. This feature was amazing to me. I enjoyed being able to just unlock my car without fumbling for the keys and starting it up in a less conventional way.

If you compare the two vehicles on features alone, then the Toyota Prius i-Tech would totally dominate the competition. On a downside though, the extra zing added by these features won't come very cheap. In fact, you will find yourself paying approximately $16,000 more than you would if you were to purchase a Honda Civic Hybrid. With a price that jumps that high from its competitors, the features on the car better be really extraordinary. Don't count the Prius out just yet though because of its price, it comes equipped with a remarkable center console LCD screen that is used to control the DVD satellite navigation. Along with managing that task the LCD screen also features a reverse camera and vehicle stats. One of the more innovative features is when the screen is showing live power statistics, which tell you how much energy you are using and how you are obtaining it. You can check the statistics to find out if you are using the engine, or electricity, or even both. I found that this feature was quite an amusing treat for me as well as informative.

Now we come down to the exterior appearance of the cars. As it did with the interior, the Honda Civic Hybrid once again wins when judged by its looks. With the eco-friendly appearance of the alloy wheels as well as the chrome highlights and hybrid badges, it was no question of why the Honda Civic claimed another victory. Toyota tried to go with something new when they designed the Prius i-Tech, but Honda stuck with the popular design of the past Civic models which gave it a nice edge on the competition. Toyota took a chance and I certainly commend them for doing so, but it unfortunately didn't work out in their favor. The one positive thing that came from the unique design of the Prius is that you know it's a hybrid car when you see it, and you are never fooled into thinking it is some other Toyota vehicle. However, the Civic Hybrid wasn't meant to deceive anyone, it was just based on the popular luxurious design on past Civics to help boost its success. Both cars have your basic alloy wheels. They look nice on both vehicles, but if you really put them side by side and look at both, you will most likely prefer the Honda to the Toyota.

Both of the vehicles are equipped with the Continually Variable Transmission (CVT), which is always a welcome feature to come across. The CVT system is used help the vehicle adjust to the driver's style.

For the Toyota Prius, you will find that the handling is much more laid back. There is an awful amount of body roll and the chassis certainly isn't up to par to that of the Honda Civic Hybrid. The steering seemed like it was a bit too power assisted for my taste. As the testing continued to move along it became apparent that the best place to drive the Prius would be in the city and not on windy or curvy roads.

The Civic Hybrid is normally ahead when it comes to taking corners and using general handling. Since it is based on the new Civic chassis there are plenty of opportunities to improve it, and continue developing it and perfecting the handling dynamics. The Civic doesn't feature any significant amounts of body roll, and is actually able to respond quickly and efficiently.

Now let's look at the prices and features and compare them. The Honda Civic Hybrid is the cheapest way to become eco-friendly with a starting price set at $31,990, which oddly enough is the same price as the Honda Civic Sport). The standard features than can be found in the Honda Civic Hybrid are as follows: cruise control, electric windows, driver and passenger side SRS airbags, alloy wheels, an immobilizer, climate control, central locking, leather wrapped steering wheel, driver and passenger front airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, Antilock Brake System (ABS) brakes, and a 6 disc changing MP3 compatible CD player.

However, the Toyota Prius i-Tech is starting at a price of $46,500, which is quite a bit more than the Civic Hybrid. The standard features that can be found on the Prius i-Tech are as follows: Power windows, climate control, dual front SRS airbags, MP3 compatible JBL audio system, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), front fog lights, immobilizer, reverse warnings, push button start, Electric Power Steering (EPS), Antilock Brake System (ABS) brakes, Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), motor traction control, DVD satellite navigation system, cruise control, alloy wheels, and many more.

One of the things that I like the most about the Honda Civic Hybrid is that they participate in the Green Fleet program, which plants trees to counteract emissions that are put out from vehicles. Honda has pledged to plant 18 trees for every Civic Hybrid sold. As an added bonus, at the end of the three years you are given the opportunity to continue participating or stop participating in the program. You shouldn't let this affect your decision though. I am a huge fan of the program, but I still think drivers should base their purchases on a number of factors to ensure that they make the right decision.

When you compare the two by features, the Honda Civic Hybrid undoubtedly takes second place to the Toyota Prius i-Tech. The quality and number of the features drastically changes between the two cars. Whether or not the price is worth it is left up to you to decide.

In conclusion, it would be great to own either of these vehicles. If you can drive a fuel efficient and eco-friendly car, then what is there to lose? After driving the hybrids I can now answer that question. You don't have anything to lose and there is actually much to gain. You don't have to be a tree hugger to take part in the prevention of world pollution. And even if you are so worried about the environment, you can still at least enjoy the benefits of a much more fuel efficient breed of cars than any others on the market.

2009 Honda Accord

2009 Honda Accord-exterior 2009 Honda Accord-exteriorThe Accord has been styled to attract more than just a passing glance. Its sharp lines and powerful stance excites the senses from any angle.

Anything but Ordinary
No stone has been left unturned. That’s because the details make all the difference. Take a look at the Accord’s brilliantly finished exhaust and chrome door handles (V-6). Exquisite attention to fit and finish set the Accord apart from the average sedan.

Honda Accord

Few vehicles over the past three decades have garnered as much respect in America as the Honda Accord. It hasn't achieved this by being sporty, glamorous or sexy. Instead, it has, for every year, offered what most Americans want out of their daily transportation. Take an Accord for a test-drive, and you'll find it comfortable, roomy, intelligently engineered and easy to drive. Research it, and you'll find it backed by a solid reputation for reliability, a strong resale value and an emphasis on safety.

It is true that competing sedans or coupes hold certain advantages over the Accord. Some are faster, others are more prestigious or less expensive. What's special about the Honda Accord, though, is its completeness. It scores well in all of the categories that people expect a family-oriented sedan or coupe to cover, not just a few. When examined from a holistic standpoint, it's easy to see why this Honda car has become an automotive icon and one of our editors' top recommendations.

Current Honda Accord

The Accord has been fully redesigned for the 2008 model year. This model is bigger than previous Accord models and boasts better engine performance without any loss of fuel efficiency. It's available as a midsize coupe or sedan and a variety of trim levels to suit almost any buyer's needs. Entry-level LX models have the basic necessities while top-line EX-L models feature items like leather upholstery and an optional navigation system. All models come with a fully array of safety equipment, including side curtain airbags and stability control.

As has been the case with the past few generations of the Accord, the newest eighth-generation model comes with either a four-cylinder or V6 engine. The base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine makes 177 horsepower; an upgraded version of this engine makes 190 hp. For more power, a 268-hp, 3.5-liter V6 is available. The four-cylinder engine has a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a five-speed automatic as optional. The V6 typically comes with a five-speed automatic, though V6-equipped coupes are available with a six-speed manual.

In reviews, we've found the latest Honda Accord continues to excel as a family sedan or midsize coupe. The interior is very roomy and high in quality, though some might take issue with the car's multitude of buttons on the dash. As a response to some Accords of the past, the latest model is a bit sportier to drive. We wouldn't call the Accord a sport sedan exactly, but this newfound agility is a desirable addition to the usual Accord strengths of safety, reliability and comfort.

Past Honda Accords

Unlike most things from the '70s -- disco, green shag carpeting, ugly pants -- the Honda Accord has not succumbed to being kitsch retro. It debuted in 1976 and multiple generations of success have followed since. Shoppers interested in a used Accord will likely find many seventh-generation models on dealer lots.

This Accord was sold for the 2003 to 2007 model years. As with the current model, it was available as a midsize coupe or sedan. Selecting a used Accord from this generation should be rather straightforward. Initially, there were three trim levels: DX, LX and EX. The DX was pretty frugal with features, so the better choice will be the LX or EX. Side and side-curtain airbags were typically optional on all trim levels.

Under the hood was a 160-hp 2.4-liter inline-4 or a 240-hp, 3.0-liter V6 engine. Four-cylinder engines could be had with either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual was available on the V6-powered EX Coupe.

In 2005, Honda introduced the Accord Hybrid. This model's V6 gasoline/electric powertrain produced 255 hp and, in theory, the best fuel economy of the lineup. In real-world use, however, the car's fuel economy was disappointing and people balked at its higher price. Very few Accord Hybrids were sold.

The most significant changes of this generation occurred in 2006 when the Accord received freshened exterior styling and more power for both engines. Stability control also debuted this year, as did minor modifications to trim level organization. In reviews at the time, we praised the car for its roomy and stylish interior, tight build quality, smooth ride and good crash test scores. Downsides included tepid handling and mediocre brakes. All said, however, this Accord was an excellent choice for a family sedan or midsize coupe.

The sixth-generation Honda Accord is also very popular in the used car market. Available from 1998-2002, this model came in coupe or sedan body styles and had either four-cylinder or V6 power. In a nine-car comparison test conducted by our Edmunds.com editors, this car finished in 2nd place. We noted that the car was not exactly entertaining to drive but was very user-friendly and competent in all areas. Buyers should feel relatively free to look at models throughout this generation as Honda didn't make any drastic changes, though cars built after 2000 have expanded safety features.

Accords built from 1994 to 1997 should make for a smart choice for those on a budget. This model boasted the typical Accord attributes and, as a used car, should provide better than average reliability, assuming it's been properly maintained by previous owners. This generation marked the first time that Honda used its VTEC variable valve timing system. A VTEC-equipped four-cylinder engine came with the EX trim level. Accord models from 1995 and upward also had a V6 available. This generation was also the last for the rare Accord wagon.

Consumers interested in an Honda Accord but limited to a smaller budget could also check out the fourth-generation Accord, which was available starting in 1990. As there is little price difference between these cars at this point, 1992 or '93 EX or SE models are probably your best choices
