Do we need big subwoofers?

Do we need big subwoofers?

  Do we need big subwoofers?
1st October,2008 : I recently bought a car which I liked a lot , it’s a maruti Suzuki swift diesel variant model vdi(abs) (that’s the highest model available in the market right now).
Since I would be the one driving it for most of the time I decided to get all the accessories
Fitted by myself instead of my dad. Basically all that my new car needed were some foot mats ,tints, mud flaps ,a telephone charger and auto locking but since iam a vivid music fan I decided to go in for a good quality music system. After a few days research ,I decided to go in with a budget of rs30 thousand and with a surety that I would get a subwoofer and an amplifier without knowing much about it. So decided with all 4 speakers from jbl with the amp and subwoofer also jbl and the head unit being pioneer
Here’s where the problem started – all the shops I went to for my car audio system had tons and tons of options about the speakers amplifier and the subwoofer for the car, which made me think a lot more number of times than I normally would for a thing like car audio installation. Finally I decided to go in with four round speakers in my door and was left with the option to select the amplifier and the sub woofer. Now basically my car is a hatchback(that means not much of trunk space) so I needed a woofer which would compliment my speakers and also would be appropriate for the size of my car .this is what I learnt from all the research I did regarding the subwoofer and its size—

What is a subwoofer? Do we need big subwoofers?
A subwoofer is a woofer, or a complete loudspeaker dedicated to the reproduction of bass audio frequencies.
Never think that larger the subwoofer better is the sound quality.
Always consider the size of your car while buying the subwoofer.
Avoid buying a basstube(another type of subwoofer) for a small car as smaller areas don’t allow the waves to completely open up. If you want thump then go for a box woofer and set your wubwoofer accordingly
Always prefer to look around for opinions before actually buying it.
Never put a large subwoofer in a small car- what this does is that it just produces noise that’s it.
Supply enough power to your subwoofer –you can do this by selecting the best amp for your subwoofer.
Avoid mixing different brands while a car audio system-its better to stick to one.

Congratulatoin and wish you a safe drive.

Your opinion started off well. As and progressed with the reading, I could not find any more information regarding the brand, size and the price of the speakers/woofers or system.

Dissapointing buddy..

well..i have an i10 hyundai hatchback and i have stormed it with Sony X-PLOD kit with sony x-plod 600 watts amp and sony x-plod 1000 watts subwoofer fitted in a bass tube. well it occupied more of the space. at high volume it (subwoofer unit)produced vibration which i diminished by clamping with iron rod.now the thump could be heard for about 100 mts distance at average volume and it sounds great inside the car aswell.
