Hummer HX Concept

Hummer HX Concept
Looking to challenge Jeep Wrangler head-on, Hummer has come up with an entry-level offering called the HX. Riding on a 103.0-in. wheelbase, the open-top HX measures 171.0 in. overall and is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 producing 304 bhp and 272 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The suspension features an independent front with coil-over shocks and a semi-trailing link rear. Brembo 6-piston caliper front and 4-piston rear disc brakes are found beneath 20-in. alloy wheels.
This rugged, go-anywhere, do-anything SUV has the angular, bare bones look of the original H1, but on a much smaller scale. The face of the vehicle has round headlamps in square housing, the seven-slot grille opening and an upright front windshield, all classic Hummer cues. In addition, the slant-back design of the HX and the matte olive paint scheme are intended to echo the military origins of the Hummer brand.
The top can be reconfigured from a closed cabin for all four passengers, an open rear cargo area like an SUT, or a completely open roadster. The exposed hinges allow the two doors to be removed, and the composite fender flares can also be detached for additional clearance on tight off-road trails. -->

2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

title

2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The ZR1 is a 600 plus horsepower super Corvette, with production is limited to just 2000 units a year. It will likely cost in the neighborhood of $100,000. The car’s platform is the already stellar Z06 Corvette that features an aluminum chassis and 505 horsepower from a 7.0-liter small-block V-8. The ZR1 takes the next step and uses forced induction by means of a new Eaton 4-lobe supercharger mounted on a revised 6.2-liter V-8. Horsepower isn’t known yet, but claimed to be well above 600.
To keep all that power in check are some massive brake rotors sourced from Brembo. In fact, they are nearly the same rotors used on a Bugatti Veyron and barely fit inside the 19-in. front wheels. The rear brake rotors fit comfortably in the 20-in. wheels and are the same as those used on the front of a Ferrari Enzo.
The Z06 is a superb track car, and the ZR1 is really pushing the Corvette envelope to the limit. But unlike the Z06, which is all about track performance, the ZR1 retains more civility thanks to Magnetic Ride control that gives varying degrees of damping—allowing the car to switch from comfort to sport with the push of a button.
You’ll recognize these on the road most easily by the carbon-fiber roof, enlarged air ducts and the clear hood window. Not to mention the smile on its owners face.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe Concept

Hyundai Genesis Coupe Concept
Hyundai Genesis Concept - John Lamm, Road and Track
The gloves are off at Hyundai, determined to convince the world that it's ready to go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest manufacturers in the industry, is showing off its sporty new Genesis Coupe concept that is to become a reality in the spring of 2009.
The Genesis Coupe, despite circulating rumors, will not succeed the Tiburon since Hyundai has no plans to stop production of its front-drive sports coupe. Instead it will enter Hyundai's line up as an entry-level rear-driver powered either by a base turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, or more powerful all-aluminum 3.8-liter V-6 that is estimated to make over 300-bhp, and over 250 lb-ft of torque.
The curvaceously raked body design is said to have been inspired by LeMans race cars, drift cars and of all other things, some die cast models by Jada Toys Dub City. Extensive use of carbon fiber can be seen throughout the entire body including the hood, roof, front fascia, rocker panels and various other details. This is no doubt an expensive setup which will most likely not make it into the sub-$30,000 production version.
Mated to either a 6-speed automatic or ZF-made 6-speed manual transmission, power will then be transmitted through a limited-slip differential and ultimately to a pair of the large 20-in. polished aluminum wheels. Hankook Ventus tires measuring 255/35ZR-20 in front and 275/35ZR-20 at the rear, are assigned the duty of managing traction under acceleration and cornering, and when the 4-piston monobloc Brembo brakes are called upon, stopping.
This 2 + 2 seater measuring 183.7-in. long, 74.9-in. wide, 54.5-in. tall and with a wheelbase of 111.0-in, upon entering the market in 2009 will have a specific mission, according to V.P. John Krafcik, and that is to "deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37, at prices more like a Mitsubishi Eclipse."

2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR

2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR
2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR - John Lamm, Road and Track
The ultimate "run what ya brung" track weapon? Quite possibly it's the new Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, a race-prepped Viper that's also street legal.
At the heart of the ACR (American Club Racer) is the 2008-version 600-bhp 8.4-liter V-10 channeling a monstrous 560 lb.-ft. of torque through a Tremec T56 6-speed manual gearbox. More power is always good, but there are myriad other tweaks to shave seconds off those lap times. Fresh from the autoclave are an adjustable carbon-fiber front splitter and rear wing, plus fixed front dive planes, that can produce up to 1000 lb. of downforce at 150 mph. Lightweight forged "Sidewinder" wheels are painted gloss black to heighten the sinister effect, and are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber, 295/30-18s up front, 345/30-19s at the business end.
Coil-over shocks from KW Suspensions have a wide range of jounce and rebound adjustability without removing the wheels, a stiffer front anti-roll bar is fitted, and lightweight slotted 2-piece StopTech rotors augment the suitably burly standard-issue Brembo calipers - Dodge claims the ACR can be stopped from 60 mph in less than 100 ft.
Weighing in at an estimated 3410 lb., the ACR is 40 lb. trimmer than the standard Viper Coupe, and an additional 40 lb. can be saved with the "Hard Core" package that dispenses with the audio system, underhood sound insulation, trunk carpet and tire inflator.
The old racer's adage, "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?" applies here. In the ACR's case, considerable speed can be had for just under $100,000.

2008 Ford Bullitt Mustang

2008 Ford Bullitt Mustang
2008 Ford Bullitt Mustang - Brian Blades, Road and TrackThe 2008 Ford Bullitt Mustang made its debut at the L.A. auto show. With a price tag of $31,075, only 7000 will be sold in the U.S., with 700 destined for Canada. Dealers will receive cars in January, so don't lag if you want one.
Not as performance-oriented as a Shelby GT, but still sporting, the Bullitt lives up to the image of the 1969 fastback better than any previous Mustang. It lacks only the fastback and 4-speed. Driving the new car is surely easier, but it retains the cool image and sound of the original, thanks to special Dark Highland Green paint, unique wheels and a retuned exhaust to match the DVD sound track.
The 4.6-liter V-8 is bumped up to 315 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. Equipped with a Ford Performance parts cold-air intake, an increase in peak rpm by 25
2008 Ford Bullitt Mustang
0, adaptive spark ignition that can measure fuel octane and a final drive of 3.73:1 the Bullitt pulls like it should and chirps the tires between full-throttle shifts, much like Steve McQueen does in the movie. As for how it handles the jumps, we'll have to wait and see.

2009 Hummer H3T

2009 Hummer H3T
The Hummer H3 lineup has been expanded to include a crew-cab pickup version of this rugged off-roader. The H3T is equipped with a 5-ft.-long cargo bed and a passenger compartment with four doors and five seating positions.
Slightly larger than most midsize SUTs in its class, but smaller than most full-size models, the H3T is offered with full-time four-wheel drive. The base engine is a 3.7-liter inline 5-cylinder engine producing 242 bhp, with a choice of a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The optional H3T Alpha package includes a 5.3-liter V-8, which is rated at 300 bhp. The Alpha comes with a 4-speed automatic.
The H3T rides on a 134.5-in. wheelbase, which is 11.7 in. longer than the standard H3's. Two suspensions are offered, the Z85 Heavy-Duty Handling and Trailering with 32-in. all-terrain tires or the Off-Road Adventure package with 33-in. tires, retuned shocks and locking front and rear differentials.
Even though the new truck is longer, it still retains Hummer's trademark off-road prowess with the ability to climb a 60-percent grade and traverse a 40-percent side slope. With the Off-Road Adventure package, the truck has 10.2 in. of ground clearance. The 2009 Hummer H3T is expected to go on sale this fall.

2009 Ford Transit Connect

2009 Ford Transit Connect 2009 Chevrolet Traverse
The fourth installment in GM's Lambda-based crossover family has been introduced as the Chevrolet Traverse. The styling blends the Division's split-grille face with a rear three-quarter window treatment similar to that of the Buick Enclave. The Traverse is distinguished from its siblings by a chromed mesh grille insert and unique taillamps. Other upscale touches include chromed door handles, a lower chrome rub strip and chromed exhaust tips.
Offered in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels, the Traverse can be equipped with either front- or all-wheel drive. While the engine is the same 3.6-liter V-6 found in the Enclave, Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia, it is the first application of direct fuel injection, which boosts output to 281 bhp and 343 lb.-ft. of torque. An optional dual exhaust is good for two more horses. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard.
Measuring 205.0 in. in overall length, the Traverse rides on a 118.9-in. wheelbase with independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes. Buyers can choose 17-, 18- or 20-in. alloy wheels. The interior features optional third -row seating and such amenities as a power rear liftgate, onboard navigation, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a rearview camera. The Traverse is scheduled to go on sale this summer.

2009 Ford Transit Connect

2009 Ford Transit Connect
Fulfilling a promise to globalize its offerings, Ford is finally bringing its Transit Connect to the U.S.A. Manufactured in Kocaeli, Turkey, the Transit Connect is purely utilitarian transport for the commercial market. One might describe it as a mini panel van, or a vehicle suited for mail delivery. Its basketball- shoe shape lends itself to easy city maneuverability, copious amounts of space and easy egress of driver and passenger(s). Dual sliding doors and extra-large passenger doors are convenient, as are the swinging rear doors that open to a full 180 degrees to ease cargo loading.
In Europe, the Transit Connect is powered by a small, fuel-efficient 4- cylinder diesel and equipped with a manual transmission. When sales begin in mid-2009 we likely won't have the diesel option, and only select markets will have the vans at dealerships. The Transit Connect is most likely to be purchased by small businesses and as fleet vehicles for around-town transport. At the Chicago auto show, Ford showed three representations of how the Transit might be configured for specific duties. The large flat body sides can display advertising.
Dodge has had great success with its European van import, the Sprinter, and we feel Ford will have the same luck with the Transit Connect.

2009 BMW 335d

2009 BMW 335d

Audi isn't the only maker pushing the performance aspect of diesels, as BMW launches the 335d, a 3 Series equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel inline-6 producing 265 bhp and 425 lb.-ft. of torque. That massive amount of t2009 BMW 335dorque is delivered from 1750 rpm on. The Bavarian automaker claims 0–62-mph (0–100-km/h) acceleration of 6.2 seconds while delivering EPA fuel economy of 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
The same engine is also being introduced in BMW's X5 crossover, where it is said to provide 0–62 mph acceleration of 7.2 sec. and 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway. That model will be called the X5 xDrive35d.
BMW utilizes its AdBlue technology, which has an additional pair of tanks (a 1.6-gal. active tank and a larger 4.5-gal. reservoir) carrying urea that is injected into the exhaust system to convert nitric oxides into nitrogen and water vapor, enabling the oil-burner to meet the emission's requirements of all 50 states. In addition, the 335d is equipped with a particulate trap technology to eliminate the soot associated with diesel operation.
The two-tank system is replenished during normal service intervals at no charge as part of BWM's comprehensive maintenance coverage. The 335d and X5 xDrive35d go on sale in November.

2009 Cadillac CTS-V

2009 Cadillac CTS-V

Following closely on the heavy foot falls of Corvette’s ZR1, the next- generation Cadillac CTS-V is walking softly, but carries a serious punch. The previous car’s LS6 V-8 pumped out a more than useful 400 horsepower. This engine is up to a monstrous 550 bhp! That’s sure to give the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG a real run for the 2009 Cadillac CTS-Vmoney. Essentially using the same engine as the new ZR1, Cadillac’s powerplant is a supercharged 6.2-liter small-block V-8, albeit with a smaller 4-lobe Eaton compressor.
Not just a CTS with a bigger engine, the V gets 6-piston Brembo front and 4-piston rear brake calipers. Large 15.0-in. front and 14.7-in. rear brake rotors are big enough to fill the 19-in. forged wheels. Sticky summer performance Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires —255/40R-19 front and 285/35R-19 rear — provide more than adequate grip. Having the newest generation of Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) and a stability-control system that features a Performance Traction Management (PTM) system, the CTS-V is sure to handle well. PTM is new and designed to improve lap times by regulating torque delivery to the rear wheels. Thus it works more like a race car’s traction control than the safety systems we are familiar with. We look forward to testing this, as the technology has shown to be invaluable in race cars. A form of launch control is said to be included.
The engine matches its horsepower figure with commensurate amounts of torque. To keep wheel hop to a minimum, the rear halfshafts are asymmetrical and the active dampers have software to maximize rear grip when launching from a standstill—again technology from the Corvette ZR1. MRC has the usual ability to switch ride quality between comfort and sport as well. What the CTS doesn’t share with the ZR1 is its transaxle.
The CTS features a conventional setup, with a new Tremec TR 6060 6-speed manual transmission and twin-disc clutch. We hope it’s more refined than its notoriously clunky predecessor. Recognizing a weak spot, GM also replaced the previously somewhat-fragile limited-slip differential with one made of cast iron. For the first time, though, a 6-speed automatic will be offered, the new Hydra-Matic 6L90 complete with paddle shifters.
Aside from the new automatic option, the CTS-V features powered Recaro seats, Bose audio with a 40-gigabyte hard drive, navigation and microfiber synthetic suede. The soft fuzzy material is found on the steering wheel, shift lever and seats. Of course, the CTS-V retains other standard CTS features, but it is clearly being treated as a Corvette with four-doors. That is surely a recipe for success

Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro Revealed

Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro 170 hp sports car with 42+ mpg
Proven performance, acclaimed styling and over 42 miles per gallon, what more could you possibly ask for in a sports car. The USA is aiming for a 2020 35 mpg standard but Audi raises the bar already today in their latest addition to the TT range, the Audi TT Coupe and Roadster 2.0 TDI which also happen to meet the strict Euro 5 standard.

Let me get straight to the point and throw the numbers at you: 125 kW (170 hp) with 350 Nm torque (258 lb-ft), uses 5.3 liters (Coupe) and 5.5 liters (Roadster) of diesel per 100 km (44.38 mpg and 42.77 mpg), the Coupe is capable of doing zero to hundred km/h in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 226 km/h (140 mph), the Roadster is just a little slower (7.6 seconds and Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro 223 km/h) while the Coupe weighs just 1,370 kg and the Roadster 1,415 kg.

Of course the Audi TT TDI quattro comes with permanent four-wheel-drive (85% of power goes to the front and 15% to the rear), it will be sitting on 16 inch cast aluminium wheels (255/55 R16), a track width of 1,572 mm and optional is Audi's magnetic ride (shock absorber system).

All we have to do now is wait for the Audi R8 V12 TDI.

Press Release
Powerful performance with maximum efficiency
Audi is once again setting standards, this time with the new Audi TT and its TDI engine—a model that combines pure sportiness and powerful performance with sensational efficiency. The Audi TT 2.0 TDI Coupe quattro and Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro are the first series- production sports cars to feature diesel engines. It’s a compelling union: The two-liter engine generates dynamic propulsion with 125 kW (170 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque, yet the TT Coupe and TT Roadster consume an average of only 5.3 liters and 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (44.38 mpg and 42.77 mpg) respectively—unparalleled in the sports car segment.

Audi is setting the pace with this synthesis of excellent dynamism and low fuel consumption, as it has done for many years: Since debuting in 1989 the TDI engines from the brand with the four rings have been paving the way for the world’s most successful efficiency technology and acting as trendsetters for the entire automobile industry. Today, these powerful, refined and highly fuel- efficient engines represent a modern, smart take on sportiness. The run of victories achieved by the Audi R10 TDI diesel race car at the Le Mans 24 Hours and in the American Le Mans Series are impressive evidence of the tremendous potential of this technology.

The dynamic diesel engines from Audi exert an exciting impact not just in racing but also in series-production models—and now indeed in a sports car. The TT Coupe quattro with the 2.0 TDI sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 226 km/h (140.43 mph). The Audi TT Roadster, likewise equipped with quattro permanent all-wheel drive, requires only an extra tenth of a second for the standard sprint, and continues up to a top speed of 223 km/h (138.57 mph).

Both versions serve as outstanding examples of the success of the Audi efficiency strategy, thanks to their fuel efficiency ratings of 5.5 liters per 100 km (42.77 mpg), a figure that corresponds to CO2 emissions of only 145 grams/km.

Powerful, refined and efficient: The 2.0 TDI
The new four-cylinder TDI engine (engine displacement = 1,968 cc) represents a fresh take on the all-round compelling qualities of the TDI concept. Designers of the dual-camshaft, two-liter model looked to its predecessor—the most- produced diesel engine in the world—and expanded upon its major strengths: driving pleasure, efficiency and refinement.

The new common rail injection system is equipped with highly modern piezo injectors, whose eight-hole injection nozzles can perform up to five distinct injection sequences per cycle. This fine degree of modulation creates a modest pressure increase in the combustion chambers, resulting in a significantly reduced noise level. The system pressure of 1,800 bar allows fuel to form a fine dispersion, enabling precise, highly efficient combustion.

The turbocharger is also part of a new generation and operates with adjustable vanes that allow torque to build up rapidly. The positions of swirl flaps on the intake manifold are controlled by electric motors in order to adapt the flow of air to the current load and engine speed. The geometry of the engine’s pistons has been modified, and the acoustics of the camshaft drive belt have been overhauled. Just as they did in the preceding model, two balancing shafts reduce the vibrations arising in the crankshaft drive.

The cumulative result of this progress is a high maximum engine speed of 5,000 rpm and, most importantly, improved thermodynamics in the combustion chambers. What this means is that the engine can run on up to 60 percent recycled exhaust that has been thoroughly cooled by the radiator. This results in a drastic reduction in untreated NOx emissions, with the 2.0 TDI already meeting the threshold values of the upcoming Euro 5 standard.

Dynamic road performance
The 2.0 TDI in the Audi TT Coupe and the Audi TT Roadster delivers 125 kW (170 hp) at 4,200 rpm and sends a full 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft at engine speeds between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Operating quietly and generating little in the way of vibration, this model delivers a hefty amount of power at the lowest rpm levels and is highly responsive to input from the gas pedal. Its supreme power development lends this engine its own unique, fascinating character—that of a muscular, smart sports engine.

The Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI quattro easily leaves the gasoline-powered competition behind when accelerating from a standstill. It sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 7.5 seconds and never looks back until it reaches 226 km/h (140.43 mph). The TT Roadster accelerates to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.7 seconds and keeps going up to 223 km/h (138.57 mph).

These models—the world’s first diesel sports cars—consume an average of only 5.3 liters and 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (44.38 mpg and 42.77 mpg) respectively, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of a mere 140 g/km and 145 g/km. In so doing, they are setting a benchmark that represents a veritable quantum leap in the sports car segment. With the TDI engine in the TT series, Audi once again establishes its leading role on the diesel market. The brand with the four rings is advancing progress and starting at the top.

In keeping with the theme of sporty performance, Audi has combined its two diesel-engine sports cars with highly effective manual six-speed transmissions whose short lever travel allows the driver to shift quickly, easily and precisely. The housings for these transmissions are made of lightweight, high-tech magnesium materials. Relatively long final transmission ratios have been employed to bring the drivetrain in line with the character of the TDI engine.

In light of their high torque values, Audi is equipping both of its new TT models with quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The heart of this system is an electronically controlled, hydraulically activated multi-plate clutch, which is located in the rear of the vehicle for improved weight distribution. This clutch generally distributes up to 85 percent of the engine power to the front axle and 15 percent to the rear axle; in extreme situations it can divert up to 100 percent of the power to either axle.

The overall concept: An exercise in uncompromised sportiness
Consistent efforts to reduce vehicle weight are also part of the efficiency strategy pursued by the brand with the four rings. Both sports cars are very lightweight: the 2 + 2-seater TT Coupe weighs only about 1,370 kilograms (3020.33 lbs) when empty, while the two-seater TT Roadster with soft top weighs roughly 1,415 kilograms (3119.54 lbs). Underlying these low weights is an innovative hybrid body construction developed by Audi. Front components are made of aluminum and utilize Space Frame technology; rear components are made of steel. This solution guarantees that the frame is as rigid as possible and optimizes load distribution between the axles.

The Audi TT Coupe and TT Roadster are dynamic, emotion-packed sports cars. As was the case with preceding models, these cars are impressive for their powerful design, whose dynamic flow continues on into the interior. The cockpit contains multiple nods to the circle motif, and the sports steering wheel with its flat-bottomed rim fits the driver’s hand like a glove. The sport seats are deep-set, providing a sporty seated position and firm lateral support. The backs of both rear seats fold down in the TT Coupe, making the trunk space grow from 290 to 700 cubic liters (10.24 – 24.72 cubic ft). The Roadster (250 liters, 8.83 cubic ft) comes with a practical load-through hatch upon request.

The sports suspension likewise offers extraordinarily dynamic features. The front suspension is pivoted on an aluminum subframe and has a wide track measuring 1,572 millimeters (61.89 inches). A highly precise rack-and-pinion steering system with a direct steering ratio provides an intimate link between the driver and the road. Power steering with servo assist, which decreases as speed increases, is generated by an electromechanical drive that is even more efficient than a hydraulic pump.

The coil springs and shock absorbers in the four-link rear axle are situated in separate areas. The links are also finely differentiated: The layout of the trailing links, which absorb the propulsive and braking forces, is relatively soft to promote a comfortable ride. The connections to the three transverse links per wheel, on the other hand, are rigid in order to direct transverse forces into the body with precision.

The Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI quattro and Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro roll on 16-inch, cast aluminum wheels fitted with 255/55 R16 tires. Behind the wheels are large disk brakes with pads that develop large coefficients of friction. The ESP stabilization program supports the neutral to slight understeering feel of the TT—the finishing touch on an overall portrait of exciting dynamics, exhilarating driving pleasure and stability you can count on.

Audi magnetic ride, a high-tech shock-absorber system available as an option, is an adaptive system that resolves the traditional conflict of interests between comfort and handling. A magneto-rheological fluid circulating in the shock absorbers changes the direction of the magnetic particles within milliseconds when electricity is applied; this alters the overall characteristics of the fluid and, in turn, modifies the damping characteristic. The driver can choose between “Normal” and “Sport” programs by flipping a switch.

Equipment makes a statement of refined style
Standard equipment for both of the new TT models reflects the sporty character and refined style of the series. Faux aluminum accents add a shine to gray inlays and various other components in the interior. The sports steering wheel comes with a Nappa leather cover. The climate control system (standard for the TT Coupe) regulates heating and ventilation in response to the level of sunlight.

The driver information system and chorus audio system round out the standard equipment. A wide array of high-tech equipment is available as options, including a highly modern generation of audio devices, electrically adjustable front seats, the adaptive light dynamic cornering light system and two navigation systems with a user interface based on the Audi MMI concept—a cut above the competition.

2008 Saturn VUE Hybrid - Review

2008 Saturn VUE Hybrid
The 2008 Saturn VUE Hybrid, also commonly known as the Saturn VUE Green Line, is a 5 passenger midsize SUV that has been redesigned for the 2008 model year. The newly revamped version is much more attractively designed both inside and out and manages to achieve a commendable balance between safety, comfort and utility in a fuel efficient and environmentally friendly package.
Boasting the highest fuel economy of any midsize SUV on the highway as well as the lowest base model sticker price for its class, this hybrid is both economically and environmentally friendly. The hybrid engine consists of a combination of a gasoline powered 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder engine and an electric motor that together deliver 172 horsepower. The electric motor is recharged via regenerative braking and kicks in when the car is brought to a stop and during deceleration, thus saving fuel. In addition to having the best mpg ratings for a midsize hybrid SUV, the VUE Hybrid Green Line has also beat out some of the most popular hybrid sedans, despite its larger size, heavier weight and increased utility. Gas mileage is rated at 25 MPG in the city and a very impressive midsize SUV 32 miles per gallon on the highway and the base model starts at only just under $25,000.
The exterior has been redesigned for the 2008 model year to reflect European design elements that include a sweeping, more rounded and less angular profile and well positioned and attractive sporty side vents. The interior has also been redesigned and now features a much more refined visual appearance as well as a very comfortable seating and user friendly operational controls. In addition to being roomy enough for 5 adults, there is just a tiny bit less than 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat. When the rear seat is folded down, cargo space increases to 56 cubic feet and there is an adjustable cargo net that rides in both upper and lower rails to secure possessions that are being transported. Although there is no third row option like some other midsize SUVs, rear passengers enjoy the luxury of reclining seats and extra comfy seats with a fold down center armrest with storage compartment. Storage is more than ample in the locking glove compartment up front, which is large enough to hold a lap top computer or pocketbook in addition to your owner's manual.
The ride is smooth and the vehicle handles well thanks to a well integrated McPherson strut suspension system and responsive steering. Like many mid size SUV's, although capable of mild off road experiences this SUV performs best on paved roads and during inclement weather. The 2008 Saturn VUE is well equipped, stylish and a very good value for the money, emphasizing the point that if you 'go green' you don't have to go broke too.

2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid - Review

2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid midsize SUV is completely redesigned for the new model year, boasting a wider, longer and more aggressively curvaceous stance. Also new this year is a new chassis that boasts improved Hybrid technology. Despite its larger dimensions and brisk acceleration, this is the most fuel-efficient seven-passenger vehicle on sale for 2008. An environmentally friendly V6 gasoline engine works in conjunction with three electric motors that have resulted in frugal midsize SUV EPA estimates of 27 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. Electric propulsion is used to a greater degree at slower speeds, which is why the Highlander Hybrid gets better mileage while driving in the city. It is estimated that battery replacement and disposal fees fot the Highlander Hybrid would run around $5000.The Base Model has seating for 5 occupants and is equipped with 17" alloy wheels and a comfortable, versatile interior featuring a multiple function display screen centrally located within the handsome wood grain trim. The display projects the images captured by the back-up camera as well as other information, including gas mileage. Versatility is optimized with the 40/20/40 second row bench seat featuring a remove and stow 'jump seat' in center section of the bench that can easily be removed and stored away creating 2 second row captains chairs and a pathway to the rear seat. The Base model also features a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, a CD/MP3/WMA-capable stereo system with auxiliary audio jack, and power windows, mirrors and door locks. Additional options for the Base model include a third row seat, dual zone automatic climate control in the front and the rear of the cabin. The Limited model has room for up to 7 passengers due to the standard 3rd row seat configuration. The Limited also features larger 19" wheels, power rear lift gate, leather wrapped steering wheel, power driver seat and an upgraded audio system that includes a 6 disc in dash CD changer. The Limited model is furthermore eligible for heated leather seats, a premium JBL audio system integrated with Bluetooth technology, a rear seat DVD player, navigation system and a sunroof.3 electric motors supplement the 3.3 liter V6 gasoline engine resulting in a sizable combined effort of 270 horsepower. Full time all wheel drive is facilitated by a continuously variable transmission and the incorporation of two separate electric motors driving the front and rear wheels. The electric motors are used to start the gas engine and fuel its nickel metal hydride battery pack, as well as provide additional and admirable driving force. In 'EV' driving mode, the vehicle will operate solely on electric power; however this is only economically useful and practical when the vehicle is traveling short distances at low speeds. Econ mode is more realistic a choice for daily travels that restrains throttle acceleration to increase fuel economy. Switching from one mode to the other during sluggish traffic jams is simple enough and operations are unrecognizable. What you will recognize is the fuel savings. The 2008 Toyota Highlander has a visually sophisticated and roomy interior. Cabin noise is minimal at best and the easy to operate fold flat 3rd row seat and 2nd row jump seat makes increases or reductions in passenger or cargo space quick and easy. Overall performance is strong, the ride is smooth and the handling capably delivers a smooth ride. The hybrid system operates virtually undetected, quietly saving the environment and saving you money at the same time. This may just be one of the easiest to drive earth friendly vehicles available today.

Mercedes C63 AMG

Mercedes C63 AMG
I never thought I'd say this, but this C63 AMG makes the BMW M3 feel soft. I'm not surprised because the BMW is especially hardcore. It's not. But I am surprised because this is a Merc, and a Merc being more ferocious than a BMW is a rare thing in recent history.
And this thing is. There are weaknesses here. I don't especially like the throttle response - there isn't that linear delivery off it that you get in an M3, especially low down in the rev range. I don't like the gearchange - it's not quick enough in manual and it's a bit clunky in auto. Drop it into Sport in auto and it'll drop into gear with a real savagery.
But the rest of it? Simply awesome. Whether it's got the measure of an M3, I can't tell you - they're so close to call that if you don't drive them back to back, it's impossible to tell. But I know which engine I prefer: the V8 in this C63 sounds fantastic.
Massive slugs of acceleration, all accompanied by a really raw V8 noise. The M3 sounds a little tame in comparison, a wee bit muted. Dare I say it, even a bit civilised. Neither of these would disappoint, but make sure you've got a clean licence before you buy.
As Charlie Turner, TG magazine's Creative Director, eloquently put it: "In the C, you run out of room in this country."

GranderTurismo

GranderTurismo

GranderTurismo
As attractive as Eva Padberg bathing in a vat of Bird's custard the Maserati GranTurismo may be, but the big coupe has never quite had the bite we were hoping for.
But now Maserati is set to give the GranTurismo a proper set of teeth. At the Geneva show next week, the Modena marque will unveil the GranTurismo S, a sportier, faster, more aggressive edition of the stunning four-seater.
The big news is that the GranTurismo's V8 powerplant has grown: from a mere 4.2 litres to a far more respectable 4.7 litres. In fact, it's a completely fresh unit, politely borrowed from the gorgeous Alfa 8C. It develops 434bhp - a jump of 35bhp over the standard GranTurismo.
There's no word on performance yet, but if you consider the 4.2-litre V8 will haul the GT to 60mph in 5.2 seconds - and that the (admittedly lighter) 8C will hit the same speed in 4.2 seconds - you're looking at some pretty lively performance.
Maserati has replaced the standard ZF six-speed auto gearbox with a faster-shifting dual clutch 'electro-actuated' box. In truth, we rather liked the old 'box, but a more aggressive transmission should suit the S nicely.
We were never so convinced by the GT's standard brakes, so we're delighted to see that the S gets a brand-new set of Brembo discs cast from iron and aluminium, paired with six-piston mono-bloc callipers.
The GranTurismo S also gets a pair of shiny new oval tailpipes, as well as new alloys and more deeply sculpted sills. On the inside, there's even more leather and alcantara. And a gorgeous model lounging on the front passenger seat if you ask nicely.
No word on prices yet, but expect a sizeable premium over the standard GranTurismo's £78,500 asking price. We'll endeavour to discover exactly how much of a premium in Geneva.
